While engaging on #festiveseasonplayideas I came across two different posts, one from @r.lees_mumma_to_the_sullivans and another from @apprenti509 that inspired me to try my own love potion water sensory play with B, which proved to be a big hit.
Instead of dying the water with food coloring, we used passion fruit tea bags which smelled delicious, provided lots of opportunities for language, and gave way to natural science experiments throughout the play (color changes, sinking vs. floating, etc). B was fascinated by how the they changed the color of the water and asked to open them up. We let the tea leaves out of the bag and although she wasn’t quite prepared for the outcome (she wanted to wash her hands because she thought it was dirt 🤣), it was a great learning experience.
If you try this activity, I highly recommend providing fine motor tools, which I added later when the small glass vase proved to be too heavy for her, and she asked how she was supposed to get the water out. Dropper for the win! 🙌🏻 B poured, filled, squirted, scooped, and played her way through potions. At the end, she bottled them up and placed them in the fridge for her stuffed animals to enjoy at a later date.
Really, you can’t go wrong with this activity. Like ❤️, save, and share below with anyone you think may benefit.
