Sensory bags open up so many possibilities for our children, including practicing fine motor skills and experiencing different textures and temperatures. In this case, we got to decorate the Christmas tree, which had red, green, gold, and silver ornaments of different colors made from sequins and rhinestones. I included several of the same decoration in different sizes and colors, allowing us to sort by size, color, and shape.
You’ll notice that I tried to be festive with the painter’s tape to hold the sensory bags down, but the quality didn’t stand up to the tried and true blue painter’s tape. Thankfully we had some on hand. Otherwise, the bag would have likely slid everywhere, making it much more difficult for the children to enjoy. It’s also your insurance policy against hair gel mixed with a little water seeping through the top of the bag.
For a greater challenge and/or to make this into a math game, you can easily use a single dice or a pair of dice to determine how many decorations to put on the tree.
