FLIP THE IMAGE – A TODDLER LESSON IN SYMMETRY

I didn’t love the planned math lesson in the curriculum today, so I did what I usually do: supplement with another fun math activity. 🤗 I wasn’t sure if it would be age appropriate since these guys are only 3, but they were excited to try it and at least they were exposed to a new vocabulary word and concept: symmetry.

If you have older children, they will likely be able to do this independently. Ours needed a lot of prompting and help. Also, some of the construction paper strips may have been crumbled up in all the excitement. 🙈 Things don’t always turned out as planned (full disclosure, always), but trying new things is still worth it. After all, this is how we learn (both children and adults). 🤷🏻‍♀️

With that said, construction paper strips are still an option, but so are popsicle sticks. Otherwise, I used colored painter’s tape to make sure one entire side didn’t move around.
