Every single parent tells you to enjoy sleep before you have kids. It’s not that I couldn’t imagine it, I just hadn’t experienced it…which made me realize that the infant stage of next level sleep deprivation is likely meant to prepare us (quickly) for what’s ahead. It gets better, not so much because it gets exponentially easier, but because we learn to adapt…and then they have a sleep regression and you realize just how good you had it while you were busy complaining that you hadn’t slept in months. Guilty! 🙋🏻♀️ I have been that parent and in case you needed to hear this today, YOU ARE DOING THE BEST YOU CAN. 🌟 We all are.
If you have 1000 household things on your checklist ✅ to get through and choose to take a nap, 😴 IT’S OK. If you’re so tired at the end of the day that you fall asleep on the couch at 8:00 pm, 😴 IT’S OK. If you dream of a solo vacation just so you can get hours and days of uninterrupted sleep, 😴 IT’S OK.
By no means did a single one of you need my approval or my permission, but I thought it worth saying out loud. Mom guilt is a real thing, and I’d like to create a space where as parents (dads included), we can talk about ALL the things. So enjoy your Friday, fill up that coffee cup, ☕️ and know that YOU ARE NOT ALONE. Now more than ever, we’re in this together.
