LETTER IDENTIFICATION WITH DOT MARKERS

The set up for this activity took less than 2 minutes and the supplies were all stuff I had on hand. Bianca’s only 3, so by no means was this activity meant for mastery, but exposure to letters is always a good idea, and who doesn’t like dot markers? 🤷🏻‍♀️

MATERIALS:
• White paper
• Dot markers
• Pen, crayon, or marker to write the letters

In her case, I made her a basic set of directions and asked her to place a colored dot on top of the corresponding letter. She decided to cover most letters with multiple dots, and that was fine, because this was meant to be FUN. We’ll call it, kid-friendly artistic license.

If you notice, I was focusing on the upper and lowercase letters Aa, Bb, and Hh, but I squeezed in a random S to see if she’d question it. She sure did!

If you’re an SLP working on negatives, this activity could be easily adapted to include instructions that might read, “which letters do NOT belong?”

If your littles are very little, and letter identification is too advanced, shapes or pictures could work just as easily.

Thrilled to be able to share these ideas with you so that they may make their way into your homes (or classrooms or therapy rooms) with your littles. A special shout out to my friend, Aldo, who tried one of the activities on my page and sent me a picture to say thank you. Now it’s me who owes you the “thank you.” It made my whole day. 🤗
