MATERIALS:
• Black construction paper
• Scissors ✂️
• Glue
• Goggly eyes 👀
• Masking tape
This activity didn’t require a whole lot of prep, other than pre-tearing the masking tape for the kids (note: when you think you have enough, keep going; you definitely don’t and you can’t overdo it), and lasted about 15 minutes in total.
Hud immediately pointed out that the masking tape was “sticky,” so even if you didn’t think this was a sensory activity, realize that it’s weaved in there (don’t you all know my love for sensory activities by now? 😉).
B kept getting the masking tape tangled up and rolled a few pieces into little balls (hello, fine motor skills), and we played Halloween music 🎶 while they worked.
To be honest, I think it took longer to get a half descent picture of both of them together with their mummy crafts than it did to finish this activity. Yet instantly they wanted to hang them up for display.
When we give kids something simple that they can do independently, they often feel a huge sense of accomplishment and ownership over the outcome. Happy and independent kiddos = success!
