Today we borrowed an idea I found on @pinterest from @fantasticfunandlearning that I will absolutely repeat again. This works just as well for picky eaters (says the SLP who loves feeding therapy) as it does for children who are highly motivated by food. Even if not a single bite is eaten, different smells and textures have been explored, and symbolic play is powerful.
MATERIALS:
β’ Pretzel rods = trunk
β’ Braided pretzels = branches
β’ Pretzel sticks = roots
β’ Green grapes (cut in 1/2) = leaves
The children each constructed their own tree as we discussed the different parts (roots, trunk, branches, leaves) and snacked along the way. And to be honest, although I enjoy both pretzels and green grapes, I had never considered how yummy they would taste together. They actually make an excellent sweet and salty combo. ππ₯¨
Thanks to Aya @donnavroberts , the kids also enjoyed making pretzel and green grape βlollipopsβ by placing a grape on top of a pretzel stick. The next time B asks me for candy, I may just serve her this healthier lollipop π version. π€£ Iβll let you know how that goes. π
We live, we laugh, and we learn even while we eat. π½π
