SANTA πŸŽ… LETTER AND COLOR MATCHING

It’s not uncommon for there to be a lot of talk about Santa with Christmas fast approaching. What is uncommon is for us to find creative ways to squeeze in an educational activity disguised as a holiday craft. πŸ˜‰ This particular one works on letter identification, naming, and beginning sounds (for the older kids, if you wish), as well as fine motor skills, problem solving skills, hand-eye coordination, and color matching. That’s a very mighty list πŸ’ͺ🏼 for such a simple activity! πŸ€—

If you notice, the printed letters match the color of the dot stickers provided. To my surprise, B quickly noticed that she could reduce her letter scanning time by matching the dot sticker color to the letter. So, she did all the blues, then all the greens, then the reds, etc. I was even more surprised when she picked up the letter P and said, β€œP is for pig!” Proud Mama moment.πŸ‘πŸ»

We can learn a lot about where our children are developmentally simply by watching πŸ‘€ and listening. πŸ‘‚ If your child becomes frustrated with this activity, it may be that they’re having a hard time with letters, or that their pincer grasp needs some more work (peeling stickers can be a challenging task). If this is the case, it may be beneficial to break up the activity into smaller parts and come back to it at a later time. Be consistent, be patient, and have fun! Your child will get it, even if not on the timeline we had in mind.

It’s also important to note that you can extend this activity by doing something as simple as coloring Santa, or providing more fine motor practice by tearing, cutting, and rolling tissue paper onto the image to give Santa more dimension. His hat and coat are just begging for a splash of color! 🎨

Tag, share, and enjoy! I’d love to hear how it turned out.
