SENSORY SORTING ACTIVITY – HALLOWEEN EDITION

I tried to be discrete and prepare this activity while the kids were engaged in something else, but as soon as I opened up the hair gel, their curiosity boiled over and they abandoned everything just to get a closer look at what was going on.

In case you were wondering, this activity was inexpensive, reusable, and a perfect fit for this time of year. My only suggestion: use a black Sharpie instead of a blue one to draw the sorting circles for better contrast.

The kids learned some new vocabulary (i.e., skull) while counting their Halloween 🎃 themed erasers. Then they dropped them into the bag, and squeezed, pushed, and pinched each eraser into a circle until they were all sorted. We talked about how it felt, used position and shape words (i.e., inside the circle, outside the circle), and just had fun with it.

They weren’t thrilled to be moving on to anything else, but the assurance that they could play with it again later or another day seemed to appease their sensory loving little selves.

MATERIALS:
• Hair gel
• Zip lock bag (any brand)
• Permanent marker
• Halloween erasers (from the @target dollar section)
• Alcohol wipe or nail polish remover to remove the branding on the Zip lock bag

Side bar: I want you to know that today was the day I realized you could use an alcohol wipe to remove the branding on a Zip lock bag (thank you @mothercould). WHAT?! 😳 Who knew? 🤷🏻‍♀️ It literally took me doing it myself to believe it.
