Typically we use snap cubes to help children with one-to-one correspondence in math. However, if you step outside the box for a minute, you’ll notice every manipulative or material can be used in multiple ways. Not convinced? Read (and look) on.
We’re elbow deep in an Arctic unit, so why not try to build an igloo with them? B was so excited to use these snap cubes, and although she needed quite a bit of help, there was counting, color sorting, planning, and creative thinking involved.
If you wanted to #adaptmyplay you could try using magnetic tiles, LEGOs, blocks, biodegradable packing peanuts (also pictured here), or play dough to build an igloo (or any model for that matter). Whatever you have available to you, use it. The more creative ways our children see us using materials, the more creative they become.
