Yesterday we started our weather unit with talking and learning about the sun. These 3-year-olds can now tell you that when it’s daytime ☀️ on one side of the Earth 🌎, it’s nighttime 🌙 on the other side. It’s never too early to teach science to small children. They may not grasp everything, and you may need to simplify it, but they are far more capable than most people give them credit for. And when it comes to science 🧪 a basic understanding of it is better than none at all.
During this art activity, we made suns ☀️ with paper plates and yellow card stock (construction paper would have worked as well). My favorite part was when H took his sun, put it under the table, and declared it was nighttime. 🌚 Moments later, he popped up with the sun ☀️ and his smiling face, stating that it was now morning again. 🤗💕
Tell me again how you think preschool is just playtime? We learn hard here BECAUSE we play hard here. That’s what school should feel like at this age – FUN with a capital F. We’re trying to foster a love of learning here. So far, so good. 😉
