FROZEN FRIENDS ICE RESCUE

Months ago I saw this activity on @keep.kids.busy who was kind enough to share this and other activity details with me through DM. Just recently, @iracreativeengine posted her version and I was reminded that I should bump it up on the seemingly endless list of activities that I want to try with B. I am so glad I did, but it comes with a warning. 🚨 This 💯 fun educational sensory and fine motor activity WILL create a HUGE mess, no matter how much you try to contain it (mine is set up inside a #flisattable and I had plenty of napkins on hand).

I would absolutely recommend doing this activity outdoors inside of a water table, for example. Also, the mess is less noticeable if you don’t add a few drops of blue food coloring to it (although so worth it 🤗). My light colored walls would agree. 🤦🏻‍♀️ I say all of this to be completely transparent as someone who actually REALLY enjoys messy play. If you try it, which I recommend, please be advised: If this activity were a hurricane 🌪 it would be a category 5. 🤣

So what exactly is it? Believe it or not, frozen shaving cream. If #noprepkidsactivity or #lowpreplearningideas are your jam 🙋🏻‍♀️ AND you’re into #messyplay , this is for you. To try it, simply follow these steps:

❄️ Place shaving cream into a freezable container.
❄️ Add a few drops of blue food coloring (optional, but for reference, I added 3).
❄️ Mix it together (I used a popsicle stick) and add some animal friends.
❄️ Let it sit in the freezer (mine sat overnight).
❄️ Add some fine motor tools, a tub of water to wash off the animal friends (optional, but my child requested it), and let the fun begin!

We paired this activity with the book Arctic Animals by #jillmcdonald which we loved. It introduced us to several arctic animal friends and gave fun facts about each without feeling like a reference book. As a bookworm myself, I was impressed.

Have you read this book or tried frozen shaving cream? I’d love to hear about it.
