Sorting offers so many learning opportunities in one activity. In this particular activity, we’re learning about clothes, so the children were asked to sort the buttons by color. You’ll notice that the yellow buttons look like a little house and even shape patterns within the same color family begin to emerge. These are tiny glimpses into your child’s mind, and like most things, when we stop for a minute, we notice the most beautiful details.
Don’t have a set of buttons at home? No problem. Your children would likely be just as happy sorting their toy cars, scraps of cloth, or fruit. And remember, we’re not limited to just colors here. We can also sort objects by shape, texture, and other attributes. If you’re feeling really ambitious, you’ll even help your kids sort their toys into bins or containers to make your life easier later. Want some tips of how to do that? Just drop me a line.
