TWO WAYS TO PLAY: A DIY SNOW EXPERIMENT AND SENSORY PLAY

I have tried multiple ways to make snow over the last few months, and none of them have impressed me. So, I decided to try 2 more ways…at the same time. Today we used baking soda and shaving cream for recipe #1 and cornstarch 🌽 and white conditioner for recipe #2 (using tinted conditioner may change the color of your snow).

I asked a lot of guiding questions and B noticed the temperature difference before I did. Apparently shaving cream is naturally cool to the touch, whereas conditioner is not. The color was also drastically different (in my opinion). Ultimately she loved both and ended up mixing them together to make “snow castles.” As you can see in the last picture, they pack quite well. We added some Olaf toys, measuring cups, and a tiny wisk, and she was entertained for almost an entire hour while making some pretty keen observations regarding their similarities and differences.

Want the recipes? Go check out my IG stories. They’re unbelievably simple to make and I recommend them (although the shaving cream version was my favorite). I also recommend having a broom 🧹 or a vacuum handy. It’s quite messy, but worth the clean up, if you ask me.

Do you let your kids get messy in the name of learning?
