Playing with Household Items

My child LOVES sensory play, and it’s likely because I love it too, meaning she gets extra exposure to these kinds of activities. The good news? They’re super simple, offer a ton of possibilities for free exploration, and you likely don’t have to buy anything. I mean it; check out the very basic materials list below. This was actually the first time I introduced a clothes pin to this already familiar (and favorite) activity, thereby adding a fine motor challenge. She was SO proud of herself when she finally did it! 30 minutes later, we were still at it, and she requests this activity often. Don’t believe me? Try it for yourself…and have a vacuum handy. Let me know how it went and share your favorite activities that don’t require you to spend a dime. Ready, set, share!

DISCLAIMER: This may not be appropriate for very young children and they absolutely MUST be supervised due to the choking hazard of beans and the possibility of them stuffing them up their noses.

MATERIALS:
Baking tray (to help contain the mess)
Small containers in different sizes
Spoons
Beans
Rice
Clothes pin (smaller size used here)
Small toys (optional)
